4 days in NYC

Earlier this year, we had the opportunity to visit New York City for 5 days. It was part of my Christmas present to the Mister.

We stayed just behind Rockefeller Center at an appropriate named hotel, the Jewel.  We got a great deal on this hotel and I couldn’t be happier. The location of this hotel is perfect! Literally a block away from the Rockefeller Centre, a short walk to Central Park in one direction, Times Square in the other, steps from the subway, lots of bars, restaurants and shopping – what more could one ask for?!

Our first night there, we had dinner in Central Park at the Boathouse Restaurant. This place is gorgeous and is overlooking one of the lakes.  The food there was amazing too!

We also visited The Top of The Rock and I must say, the views are spectacular!  360˚ of views of NYC!

If you have some time, definitely check out the Rockefeller Center Architecture Tour! It takes you through a number of the buildings (I don’t remember how many, but it was a lot!) The art work and sculptures are absolutely beautiful and I can’t believe I barely paid attention to them before going on this tour.

They also do a number of show tapings. Wander over to NBC’s gift shop in the Rockefeller Center and ask them for stand-by tickets. If you’re lucky enough, you may get to see some great shows!  We got a chance to see a live taping of Seth Meyers!  (When planning your trip in advance, try getting tickets for show tapings then. A number of the shows (such as the Daily Show and Saturday Night Live) require advance tickets – sometimes months in advance! So plan appropriately.

Finally, we went to see the Blue Jays play the Yankees in Yankee Stadium (the Mister’s Christmas gift). We took the subway there from our hotel (very user friendly!). We arrived thereearly enough to see the Blue Jay’s batting practice and take a quick tour of the stadium including Monument Park.
